ما هي السمنة

What is obesity?

The disorder in the body causes an increase in the amount of fat in the body and in many cases leads to health complications associated with being overweight such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease and atherosclerosis.

Do I suffer from obesity?

The BMI is calculated to determine whether or not he is obese. Anyone who has a BMI over 30 is considered obese. BMI is calculated by dividing the weight in kilograms by the height in square metres.

How can obesity be treated?

Several methods can be followed to treat obesity:

Follow a healthy diet and exercise: This is the first option that everyone resorts to in an attempt to lose weight, but in some cases it does not work and there is a need for medical intervention such as gastric sleeve operations or the SASI operation.

Gastric sleeve surgery: It is a vertical resection of the stomach and it is a form of weight loss surgery that restricts the volume of the stomach, in which approximately 85% of the stomach is removed in a cylindrical or sleeve-shaped gastric sleeve for a volume ranging from about 60 to 150 cc. Unlike many other forms of weight loss surgery, gastric sleeve surgery results in a significant reduction in volume and preservation of function, but it places many restrictions on the foods a patient can consume after surgery and the amount of food they eat. One of the most important advantages of a gastric sleeve is the virtual elimination of hormones produced within the stomach that stimulate hunger. Patients who have gastric bypass surgery begin losing weight faster than most other surgical or non-surgical options, and the expected weight loss is usually around 30% of total body weight loss over 12 months.

gastric sleeve surgery cost : The cost differs from the rest of the operations as a result of the difference in the doctor or hospital in which the operation will be performed and the examinations and x-rays that each patient may need according to his condition.

SASI (loop bipartition) surgery : The SASI operation does not depend on a single surgical procedure, but it includes a combination of gastric bypass and gastric sleeve operations to allow benefiting from the advantages of both operations and obtaining the best result. It is done by cutting the largest part of the stomach that contains the “hunger hormone” and the doctor diverts the path at the same time through a link between the stomach and small intestine to reduce the absorption of calories in food.

The idea of this surgery depends on allowing food to have two paths in the stomach. The first includes 35% of the food that an individual eats, which goes in the normal course of digestion and vitamins, proteins and minerals are absorbed in it. And the second part of the food, which is the largest proportion of it, up to 65%, follows the path that has been converted, and the body does not absorb anything of it and moves from the stomach to the small intestine directly, which helps to lose weight. Patients often lose approximately 50% of their weight during the first 6 months, and after the first year, the patient reaches the appropriate weight for him.
