What is the SASI operation or the loop bipartition?
SASI is an acronym for “single anastomosis sleeve ileal (SASI) bypass.”
It is a combination of gastric sleeve surgery and gastric bypass surgery, and it is considered one of the latest obesity correction surgeries
The SASI operation is to remove part of the small intestine while preserving the gastric outlet and not removing it, so there are two food paths.
The first path is the natural path of food, where about 25-30% passes through it, and thus important nutrients such as minerals and vitamins are absorbed
As for the second path, it is approximately 70-75% of the passage of food to its new path, which reduces the absorption of fats and other known obesity factors.
What are the advantages of the SASI operation?
is one of the effective methods that a large group of people resort to in search of a safe and quick solution to lose weight, reduce food intake and reduce food absorption after their continuous attempts to lose weight in several ways. SASI (loop bipartition) surgery is one of the most recent methods that science has reached in obesity surgery, and its most important features are:
- Helping to get rid of obesity permanently
- The SASI operation has proven its worth in increasing the cure rate for type 2 diabetes
- Preventing diseases that may be associated with obesity, such as heart disease and sleep apnea
- The cure rate for high blood pressure increased by up to 85%.
- Helps reduce back and joint pain, which also accompanies obesity
- The duration of this operation is short, ranging from one to two hours
Who are the candidates for the operation?
Conditions for the loop bipartition surgery:
- Age should not be less than 18 and not more than 65
- People whose BMI is above 40
- Other people whose body mass index is higher than 35 and who suffer from diseases associated with obesity such as diabetes or high blood pressure
Post-operative advice:
The patient stays for two to three days in the hospital, then returns to his home and can return to normal life activities after about one to two weeks.
- Vitamin and mineral capsules should be taken daily
- Follow a protein-containing diet
- Commit to exercise
- Drink at least 2 to 3 liters of water per day
